Prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease - what now?
Congenital heart disease is nowadays increasingly diagnosed already during pregnancy. This gives parents-to-be the opportunity to use comprehensive counselling and prepare themselves early. At the same time, however, this early diagnosis can also be an emotional burden for the expectant parents and can trigger feelings of anxiety, stress and depression, especially in the expectant mother. With this study, we want to investigate the emotional state of the expectant mother after the diagnosis of congenital heart disease in order to be able to develop appropriate support services. The Department of Congenital Heart Disease - Pediatric Cardiology at the German Heart Centre of the Charité (DHZC) is conducting this study.
